New York-based indie singer-songwriter Eliza Edens has released Death Drive through First City Artists, presenting an eleven-track collection exploring grief, identity and the complicated relationship between destructive impulses and personal transformation. The album follows earlier recordings Time Away From Time and We'll Become the Flowers and reflects a period during which Edens experienced significant changes in their personal life.
The death of their mother and the process of embracing their identity helped shape a collection that combines vulnerable songwriting with more energetic alternative-pop arrangements. Earlier singles "Death Drive", "Hot and Mean" and "Old Home Video" introduced the album's emotional and musical range. Opening composition "All in Sinnin'" offers another perspective, moving beyond conventional confessional folk toward a more adventurous approach to melody and production.
The collection also includes "Booty Call", "Hand in My Hand", "Hey Mama", "Bigger", "Caroline", "Keep You" and "Nothing Ever Gets in the Way" featuring Alisa Amador. Edens worked with producers Dexter Wolfe and Pat Keen, recording material across studios in New York and Minneapolis.
The album's title refers to the uncomfortable attraction people sometimes experience toward risky behaviour, particularly when those experiences make ordinary life feel more intense. Rather than presenting grief exclusively through quiet acoustic arrangements, Edens explores the possibility that sadness and joy can become closely connected.
