21 September 2026 – Declan Welsh and The Decadent West Turn Up the Pressure on Explicit Agitation

Declan Welsh and The Decadent West have announced their third album, Explicit Agitation, due February 12, 2027, and they're not exactly easing into the campaign with a polite knock on the door. New single Run Down Small Town introduces the record with the Glasgow band's familiar appetite for social observation intact.

The 11-track album was recorded with producer Chris Marshall at Mogwai's Castle of Doom Studios, a suitably formidable address for music interested in poking at uncomfortable subjects. Explicit Agitation is set to examine post-industrial decline alongside more intimate territory including love, loneliness, faith and self-awareness. That's a potentially combustible mixture, but Welsh has always sounded most comfortable when personal frustrations and larger social questions start elbowing one another for space.

The announcement arrives as the band prepare for another UK and European headline run, giving the new material an immediate live proving ground. Run Down Small Town also provides a useful clue to the album's direction: rather than sanding down their edges as their audience grows, Declan Welsh and The Decadent West appear determined to make those edges part of the attraction. For fans of hard-edged Scottish indie rock and post-punk, February already has an appropriately impatient title.
