Brooklyn alternative-rock band DIIV have released "Dare Me", the final advance single from their forthcoming album ZIRP!, scheduled for October 30 through Fantasy Records. The recording continues the group's exploration of shoegaze and experimental electronic production, with acclaimed producer A. G. Cook helping reshape their familiar guitar-based sound.
Earlier singles "The Fountain", "Kid" and "Trillions" introduced the album's unusual combination of distorted guitars, electronic textures and unconventional arrangements. "Dare Me" develops those ideas further, placing atmospheric vocals within an increasingly elaborate musical environment. The accompanying music video was directed by Louie Kovatch and features the band performing inside an abandoned office building while wearing deliberately ordinary business clothing.
The visual presentation contrasts mundane corporate surroundings with the group's expansive and experimental music. ZIRP! represents an important creative development for DIIV, who have spent years exploring the possibilities of atmospheric alternative rock. Their collaboration with Cook introduces production techniques associated with contemporary experimental pop without completely abandoning the musical identity established through earlier recordings.
The group have also announced an extensive international tour beginning in Australia during February 2027 and concluding in Britain the following June. Additional European festival performances are scheduled for November. "Dare Me" suggests that shoegaze can remain adventurous by embracing influences beyond traditional guitar effects. Apparently the future of alternative rock involves combining walls of distorted sound with electronic experimentation and dressing everybody like they have an important meeting with the accounting department.
