London post-punk quartet Dogviolet have released their new EP Wilting, a four-track collection that uses botanical imagery to examine social injustice, family pressures, inherited trauma and the stubborn refusal to give up. The self-released project features Naz Toorabally, Ella Patenall, Lauren Allpress and Margot Cintract blending goth atmosphere, shoegaze haze, grunge weight and alternative-rock dynamics.
The title itself functions as the project's central metaphor: a plant that has begun to wilt is struggling, but it is not necessarily beyond recovery if its environment changes. That idea runs through songs including 'Fig Leaves', 'Daisy Crowns', 'Black Walnut' and 'Daughter'.
The EP was produced by guitarist Patenall and recorded and mixed with Tom Hill, with the band favouring dramatic builds and heavy-textured releases over straightforward comfort. Dogviolet will celebrate Wilting with an immersive London headline show at The Victoria in Dalston on September 25, followed by UK dates in Manchester, Brighton, Bristol and Birmingham. In modern post-punk and gothic rock, the plant appears to have quite a bit of fight left.
