DOMi & JD Beck release their second album 'Who Asked?', returning with another hyperactive collision of jazz-fusion, funk, soul, hip-hop and electronic composition. The duo move beyond the heavily digital textures and celebrity-packed approach of their debut, introducing clarinet, trombone, oboe, cello and double bass into arrangements that remain delightfully difficult to sit still beside.
Co-produced with DOMi’s brother Noé Degalle, the album places greater attention on composition and the pair’s almost suspicious level of musical communication. Their performances can sound like two people completing an argument at extreme speed while somehow agreeing on every rhythmic detail. 'Who Asked?' is playful, technical and resistant to the idea that jazz must behave respectfully in public. Nobody asked, apparently. DOMi and JD Beck answered anyway, in several time signatures at once.
