Chicago indie-rock quintet Edens have released their debut album, Static Fiction, through independent label Dedd Foxx. The nine-track record was tracked at Chicago's Jamdek Studios with engineer Mike Lust, developing a surreal, hypnotic perspective on Midwestern American life.
The album features recent advance single "Metal Egg", inspired by Belgian surrealist René Magritte's 1928 painting La Voix des airs, where colossal spherical bells float silently above an ordinary countryside. Musically, Edens blend motorik Krautrock rhythms, chiming post-punk guitars, and Midwestern emo vulnerability into captivating arrangements.
Composed of Jonathan Burden, Pete Gray, Crawfie Ward, Josh Shell, and Adam Penly, the band bring a seasoned musicianship forged through years in Chicago's DIY underground. The initial vinyl run is pressed to 150 limited coloured copies, with a hometown celebration set for November 13 at Gman Tavern.
The American Midwest becomes endlessly intriguing when viewed through Edens' surreal sonic lens. Explore more innovative indie rock across our indie rock section and browse the complete news archive.
