Elvis Costello is deliberately getting ahead of the conventional anniversary cycle with an extensive 49th-anniversary edition of My Aim Is True in new wave.
Due on 2 October, the five-disc collection remasters the original 12-track album from analogue sources and adds 52 previously unreleased recordings. Demos, alternate takes and performances from venues including the Hope & Anchor and Winterland trace the development of Costello’s early songs from pub-rock economy into sharp new-wave landmarks.
The package also includes handwritten lyrics and new essays from contributors such as Nick Lowe, Rosanne Cash, Peter Wolf and Jim James. A vintage live performance of 'Watching the Detectives' previews the archival set.
