22 September 2026 – Girl In The Year Above Sign to Transgressive and Release Defiant 'Wet Paint'

Irish-Cornish band Girl In The Year Above have signed to Transgressive Records and marked the deal with new single 'Wet Paint', their first release for the influential independent label. The signing follows a productive stretch that included singles 'Mama, My Heart Is Achin'' and 'Ode To The Glory Days', plus a cover of Massive Attack's 'Teardrop' featured in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.

'Wet Paint' takes the band's upward momentum into considerably heavier lyrical territory. Written by vocalist Jennifer Ball and keyboardist Jeanie White, the song gradually reveals itself to be about consent, deliberately pairing a bright and forceful musical setting with subject matter that is often discussed only through darkness.

The band say they wanted the track to retain a sense of joy, power and defiance for listeners who may recognise their own experiences in it. Signing to Transgressive puts Girl In The Year Above alongside a label with a long record of developing adventurous alternative rock and indie acts. 'Wet Paint' makes an effective first handshake: emotionally direct, musically immediate and uncompromising.
