Liz Harris, the Portland musician best known for her influential experimental project Grouper, has announced Music For Two Films About Water, arriving November 27 through Kranky. The album marks her first release under her own name and contains two extended instrumental compositions written for films examining water from very different perspectives.

Dutch filmmaker Tanja Engelberts' We Exhale investigates humanity's transformation of the Rhône River through dams, engineering and pollution. Japanese experimental filmmaker Takashi Makino's Constellation instead explores water through abstract imagery and dreamlike visual movement. Harris developed the accompanying music using Mellotron, Wurlitzer, tape loops and environmental recordings, creating ambient pieces intended to interact with the films rather than simply decorate them.

The announcement arrives alongside "Untitled (From Constellation)," a twenty-two-minute composition that moves through quiet instrumental textures with an almost hypnotic patience. Harris has spent more than two decades developing a musical language built around memory, atmosphere and the emotional possibilities of imperfect sound. Her recent activity also includes the return of dream-pop trio Helen, whose album Linda's Head appeared after an eleven-year absence. Music For Two Films About Water continues Harris' longstanding relationship with experimental cinema.
