Hammok ask when a scene becomes a home and answer with volume

Hammok’s When Does This Place Become Our Scene is not just an album title. It is a very real question for anyone who has ever stood in a small venue wondering whether they belong there. Released on 5 June via Sargent House, the Oslo trio’s second album pushes through punk, noise rock and post-hardcore with frantic energy, but the emotional centre is more thoughtful than the volume might first suggest. Hammok are not only interested in chaos. They are interested in what scenes mean, who gets to claim them, how community forms and how loneliness survives even in rooms full of people. That gives the record extra charge. The riffs hit, the drums sprint and the vocals sound like they are trying to break through the ceiling, but underneath the racket is a band asking a very human question: what does it mean to be part of something without losing yourself inside it?
