Copenhagen alternative-rock quartet Inventory are attracting fresh attention with "No Design", their first new single since the 2025 EP Sunday Tonne. Released on October 29 and featured in new coverage on November 7, the song previews the band's forthcoming debut album People Pyramids, expected in February 2027 through Dream Bureau. The group consists of Christian Ankerstjerne, Jacob Koefoed, Joakim Møller Johnsen and Christian Aumayr, with members contributing combinations of guitar, vocals, keyboards, trumpet, bass and drums.
"No Design" introduces a restrained, slowcore-influenced approach to alternative pop, examining the relationships that gradually disappear as personal circumstances change. The central concept is unusually relatable: friendships do not always end because somebody has behaved badly or an argument has become impossible to resolve. Sometimes work, relationships, family commitments and ordinary responsibilities gradually rearrange people's priorities until former companions discover they have become strangers.
Inventory describe those changing relationships through the idea of a human pyramid in which everybody occupies a limited amount of space. When somebody moves closer to the centre, another person may find themselves pushed toward the edge. The forthcoming album promises to investigate these transitions through atmospheric arrangements and reflective songwriting. Rather than relying upon exaggerated heartbreak or dramatic confrontation, Inventory examine the quieter disappointments associated with becoming an adult.
Apparently one of life's most uncomfortable discoveries is realising that maintaining a friendship occasionally requires something considerably more challenging than affection: finding a mutually convenient evening.
