American indie-rock songwriter Kevin Morby has released "Nursery Rhyme", a new collaboration featuring experimental musician and visual artist Lonnie Holley. The recording is available exclusively through Bandcamp, with proceeds supporting Everytown for Gun Safety, an organisation campaigning to prevent gun violence in the United States.

Morby recorded the song during summer 2025 but initially hesitated to release it because of its disturbing subject matter. The composition addresses gun violence involving children and contains themes that some listeners may find distressing. Rather than distributing it through conventional streaming algorithms, Morby deliberately chose Bandcamp so audiences could make an informed decision before listening.

The recording developed during a session at producer Sam Cohen's studio, with French group Petite-Vallée contributing instrumentation and saxophonist Cochemea Gastelum adding another musical element. Holley's contribution arrives after Morby's vocal performance, introducing a contrasting perspective that the songwriter describes as an important source of hope. The release follows Morby's earlier protest song "Beautiful Strangers", which also addressed gun violence approximately ten years ago.

His latest composition reflects the emotional impact of becoming a parent and confronting the continued prevalence of violence involving children. "Nursery Rhyme" demonstrates how independent musicians can use their creative work to support social causes while making deliberate decisions about distribution and audience expectations. Its Bandcamp-only presentation also highlights the value of platforms that allow artists greater control over how their music reaches listeners.
