<a href="/tags/le-ren">Le Ren</a> shares ‘Every Age’, a tender new single from forthcoming album ‘Don’t Be Funny Without Me’. Fiddle, lap steel, banjo and softly swaying percussion support a simple but emotionally enormous idea: wishing you could have known somebody at every stage of their life.

The song imagines the baby, the schoolchild, the teenager and all the earlier versions that existed before two lives finally crossed at thirty-three. It is romantic without becoming sugary, partly because the wish is impossible and everybody involved knows it.

The visualiser was filmed in a stairwell, an appropriately in-between setting for a song about years, missed moments and emotional floors that cannot be revisited by pressing the correct button. ‘Every Age’ continues Le Ren’s movement toward a fuller band sound while preserving the warmth and intimacy of her earlier work. It is a love song for the person in front of you and all the people they used to be.
