American guitarist Morris Kolontyrsky has announced his second solo album Source Material Vol. 1, scheduled for February 19, 2027 through Phantom Limb. Best known for his work with experimental death-metal group Blood Incantation, Kolontyrsky uses his solo recordings to explore a considerably different musical environment.

The forthcoming five-track collection combines atmospheric guitar passages, analogue synthesizers and influences associated with German electronic music from the 1970s. It follows his 2025 solo debut Origination and introduces lead single "The Mysterious Alignment". Kolontyrsky wrote and recorded the material at his home in Denver, Colorado, developing the compositions between touring commitments.

The album was subsequently performed at Steve Roach's SoundQuest Festival during summer 2026, where the live presentation helped establish its final structure. Rather than treating individual tracks as unrelated compositions, Kolontyrsky arranged the material to create a continuous listening experience. The tracklist includes "Radial Depth", "Hope Could Exist", "The Mysterious Alignment", "Acoustic Event" and "Planetary Memory - Ether Steps".

The recording explores the relationship between atmospheric sound design and recognisable instrumental themes, encouraging listeners to become immersed without abandoning musical direction entirely. Source Material Vol. 1 demonstrates the creative flexibility available to musicians associated with heavier genres. Apparently spending considerable time performing aggressive progressive metal can eventually inspire a perfectly reasonable desire to sit quietly with a synthesizer and contemplate the universe.
