Myles Smith turns therapy notes into a debut album with a backbone

Myles Smith's story could easily be reduced to the usual modern music headline: viral single, big numbers, bigger rooms, next stop album campaign. But the more interesting version is much more human. Ahead of his debut album My Mess, My Heart, My Life, due 19 June, Smith has been speaking about how years of therapy helped him write songs that look beyond the easy victory lap of online success. Instead of simply chasing another Stargazing-sized moment, he appears to be using the album to unpack family, safety, memory and the strange emotional maths of growing up while people are watching.

That gives the record a stronger centre than the average breakout-to-debut pipeline. Smith is not pretending that success fixes everything. He is trying to make something honest from the mess, which is usually where the best songs start anyway.
