Nara’s Room confront memory and inheritance on Tearless, thoughtless

Brooklyn quartet Nara’s Room release Tearless, thoughtless on 15 May via Mtn Laurel Recording Co., following their 2024 debut Glassy star. The album’s emotional centerpiece is Tucson, a seven-minute ballad inspired by the final scene of a Linda Ronstadt documentary in which Ronstadt sings with her family in her Tucson living room after losing her voice.

Nara Avakian uses that image to explore Armenian heritage, intergenerational trauma and the difficulty of reconciling personal identity with historical loss. That gives Tearless, thoughtless a depth that goes beyond indie nostalgia, even though the tracklist is full of memory-coded titles such as DVD menu, Reseda, MiniDV, AOL away msg and Lizzie mcguire.

The record seems to treat old media not as cute retro decoration, but as emotional storage: places where family, adolescence, grief and selfhood are archived imperfectly. The references to Sergei Parajanov’s The Color of Pomegranates and Armenian cultural memory add another layer, making the album feel intimate and historically haunted at once. For a 15 May indie digest, Nara’s Room are a strong discovery because their music ties bedroom-scale feeling to much larger questions of inheritance, voice and survival.
