The National Eisteddfod of Wales has opened near Cardigan Castle for an eight-day celebration of Welsh-language music, poetry, dance and art. Known as Eisteddfod y Garreg Las, the 2026 festival marks 850 years since Lord Rhys ap Gruffydd held the first gathering in 1176 in Welsh culture.
Super Furry Animals headlined the opening Saturday, supported by Mellt, Pys Melyn, and Ynys. A five-metre puppet of Lord Rhys travelled through the region, connecting medieval heritage with contemporary Welsh independent music.
