Cardiff gothic post-punk outfit Slate have announced their second EP, The Grandfather Clock, scheduled for January 22, 2027, via Brace Yourself Records. The hypnotic title track is available now, accompanied by a visual filmed on location in the historic Welsh village of Trellech.

Following their 2024 debut Deathless, the four-track collection adopts a poignant narrative architecture: each composition is anchored to a specific heirloom found inside the home of a deceased older relative. "Lantern", "Tapestri", "The Pond", and "The Grandfather Clock" explore Welsh heritage, familial memory, and the ghostly residue lingering within physical heirlooms.

Slate tracked the material live at London's RAK Studios and Perryvale Studios with producer Richie Kennedy. Vocalist Jack Shephard, bassist/vocalist Lauren Edwards, drummer Raychi Bryant, and guitarist Louie Lane incorporate choral refrains, spoken Welsh verse, and Celtic folk elements into their imposing, shadowy post-punk canvas.

An old stone cottage holds far more than vintage furniture; in Slate's hands, it contains four devastating anthems. Explore more dark post-punk in our post-punk section and check out the news archive.
