Oddfellows carry The Burden with garage-pop bite

Oddfellows’ The Burden arrives on 11 June through Dirtnap Records, and the title tells you plenty before the first guitar fully lands. This is garage punk with weight on its back, but not the kind that drags the song down. Instead, the track seems to use burden as fuel. The Bandcamp tags place it around punk, rock and roll, garage, pop punk and Milwaukee, which is exactly the sort of compact world Dirtnap has long understood: fast songs, sharp edges, hooks that know how to survive distortion and a sense that the room is probably a little too small for the volume. The Burden works as a reminder that garage punk does not need a complicated mission statement. It needs urgency, personality and just enough melody to make the damage repeatable. Oddfellows sound like they know that old equation very well.
