The Olivia Tremor Control will release 'The Same Place', their first new album in 27 years and the final chapter of one of psychedelic indie pop’s most beloved and unfinished stories. The sprawling 27-track double album was begun roughly two decades ago by late co-leaders Bill Doss and Will Cullen Hart.
Their surviving bandmates, joined by friends from the wider Elephant 6 community, have now completed the project using Hart’s notes and the material left behind. That history gives the release enormous emotional significance, but 'The Same Place' is not merely an archival exercise.
It represents an attempt to finish a creative world built from tape collage, melodic pop, surreal imagery and the belief that ordinary recording equipment should occasionally behave like a portal. The album arrives in October and includes previously heard tracks 'The Same Place' and 'Garden of Light'. Twenty-seven years is a long wait, but psychedelic time has never respected the conventional calendar.
