American psychedelic-pop vanguard The Olivia Tremor Control have released The Same Place through Elephant 6 Recording Company, fulfilling one of independent music's most fabled unfinished odysseys. The twenty-seven-track double LP marks the Athens collective's first full-length effort since 1999's masterpiece Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume One, spanning over two decades of tapes and shared concepts.

The album stands as a poignant tribute to co-founding visionaries Bill Doss, who died in 2012, and Will Cullen Hart, who passed away in 2024. Surviving bandmates and Elephant 6 compatriots—including Derek Almstead, Jason NeSmith, and Ron Kwasman—carefully assembled and mixed the historical material, ensuring the founders' tape experiments, field recordings, and sunshine melodies emerged fully realized.

Alongside previously shared title track "The Same Place" and "Garden of Light", the collection boasts dense sonic collages like "Begin Now!", "Meeting Ourselves", "Fossil Faun", and the multi-movement sequence "Path of the Parallels". The resulting LP merges Beatles-esque vocal harmonies with uninhibited avant-garde curiosity, revitalizing the spirit of psychedelic rock.

Twenty-seven years is an extraordinary gap between studio records, but The Same Place proves that collective devotion can triumph over loss and time. Read more about archival triumphs across our experimental coverage and visit our news archive.
