Rich Jones make Bar Talk feel like neighborhood gossip with a bluesy backbone

Rich Jones’ Bar Talk gets highlighted in Bandcamp Daily’s 29 June hip-hop roundup, and the concept is beautifully grounded: the neighborhood bar as emotional theatre, community archive and slightly sticky confessional booth. The Chicago scene veteran writes like he is perched on a barstool talking to regulars, turning ordinary physical discomfort, local ritual and passing conversations into songs. Bandcamp notes that Philadelphia’s $$$ collective handles production, with Philth Spector bringing bluesy guitar lines and slouchy mid-tempo drums. That sound is perfect for the subject. Bar Talk does not need to be cinematic in a grand way because the bar is already a stage.
