Kansas City rock band Shiner has released a heavy, hazy interpretation of My Bloody Valentine’s 'Only Shallow' in post-hardcore.
Recorded and mixed by bassist Paul Malinowski at Westend Studios in 2003, the cover originated when the group began using the song as a live-set closer. More than two decades later, it becomes the first preview of The Y Section, a ten-track collection of unreleased and difficult-to-find recordings due on 9 October through Spartan Records.
The project gathers material from across more than 25 years, providing an alternative history of the band outside its principal studio albums. Shiner’s version emphasises physical weight while retaining the original composition’s disorienting movement.
