Slow Pulp return with Better Man and a softer kind of control

Slow Pulp are back with Melodie, their first album since 2023’s Yard, and the new single Better Man suggests a band leaning into growth without sanding off the ache. Announced in the current 11 June news cycle, the album is set for 18 September via ANTI-, with a fall tour following across North America. Vocalist Emily Massey has described Better Man as a song about releasing control and moving toward self-acceptance, which fits Slow Pulp’s strength as a band. They make indie rock that often feels understated until the emotional hinge quietly gives way. The title Better Man could easily become heavy-handed, but Slow Pulp’s best songs avoid overstatement. They let guitars, voice and pacing do the slow work. This return feels like the start of a chapter built less around reinvention than emotional recalibration, and that is often more interesting.
