Squid will make their Barbican debut in December with a special performance celebrating both their tenth anniversary and fifty years of Rough Trade. The Brighton art-rock group will take over the Barbican Hall following their third album ‘Cowards’, bringing their complicated rhythms, nervous energy and unpredictable arrangements into one of London’s most imposing cultural spaces.

A ten-year anniversary can encourage bands to become nostalgic, but Squid have never sounded particularly interested in sitting peacefully beside a scrapbook. Their music remains restless, physical and slightly suspicious of straight lines.

The Barbican setting should give their songs room to expand, echo and possibly alarm several architectural surfaces. Tickets go on sale on 24 July. Formal seating may be provided, although remaining calmly seated is another matter. Check out live news in Indie Rock.
