Philadelphia shoegaze experimentalists They Are Gutting a Body of Water have released two additional tracks from their forthcoming mixtape KOOL FAITH / LOOSIES II, arriving digitally October 16 through ATO Records and Julia's War. The project contains twenty-nine tracks and an impressive collection of underground collaborators, including RXKNephew, Greg Mendez, Spirit of the Beehive, Hotline TNT and numerous other artists.
New preview "illusion hue" features Toner, the Oakland guitar-pop project led by Samuelito Cruz, while "am i wrong" brings together A Country Western and Dead Sullivan. The former delivers a short burst of melodic shoegaze, while the latter moves into hazier and more distorted territory. Band leader Doug Dulgarian has explained that the mixtape format was inspired by inexpensive unofficial compilation CDs sold in convenience stores.
Rather than treating collaboration as a carefully managed promotional exercise, TAGABOW appear interested in recreating that unpredictable creative environment. The upcoming collection will also receive a physical release on November 20, while the band prepares an extensive American tour. Twenty-nine tracks may sound excessive, but the underground music scene has rarely been interested in following market research.
