Philadelphia shoegaze and experimental-rock pioneers They Are Gutting a Body of Water (TAGABOW) have announced the cancellation of the majority of their upcoming North American tour following frontman and principal songwriter Doug Dulgarian's cancer diagnosis.
Dulgarian received the diagnosis on October 16, coincidentally the exact date the group released their expansive collaborative project KOOL FAITH / LOOSIES II. In a public message issued October 20, Dulgarian stated that medical treatment begins immediately, making widespread touring impossible, though the band tentatively hopes to perform selective hometown dates in Brooklyn and Philadelphia this December.
The band's recent compilation featured guest contributions from close peers across the American alternative underground, including Spirit of the Beehive, Hotline TNT, Horse Jumper of Love, and Greg Mendez. Dulgarian expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of love and solidarity from friends, fellow musicians, and listeners worldwide.
TAGABOW have redefined modern shoegaze through their idiosyncratic integration of jungle breakbeats, crushed 8-bit samples, and wall-of-sound guitar distortion. The entire alternative music community stands firmly behind Dulgarian as he begins treatment and recovery. Explore our shoegaze coverage and read more in our daily news.
