Australian electronic producer 1tbsp has announced his debut full-length album big soaps, scheduled for February 5, 2027 through dottidot. The announcement accompanies new single "Carottes", featuring French synth-pop musician miki.
1tbsp is the recording identity of Maxwell Byrne, whose music combines dance-oriented electronic production with adventurous arrangements and collaborations across different independent scenes. "Carottes" developed during a short writing session in Paris, where Byrne and miki had only a few hours together before the French musician departed for another touring commitment. Despite the limited time, the pair developed three compositions, two of which are expected to appear on the forthcoming album.
miki contributed fragments of electronic recordings created through her usual production process, with one becoming the foundation for the single's central synthesizer arrangement. Byrne has cited Greek music and the electronic work of Stereo Nova as influences on the recording. The French-language collaboration follows earlier singles "Wish You Luck" featuring kid on air and "Pink Dress" with Cherry Cola. Byrne established the 1tbsp project in 2021 and has subsequently collaborated with musicians including Ninajirachi, Soltera and mietze conte. His previous work under the Golden Vessel identity also attracted Grammy recognition.
big soaps promises a collection shaped by international collaboration and an interest in electronic music that refuses to remain confined to one stylistic category. Apparently a few hours in Paris can produce more interesting results than several months of remote meetings, particularly when somebody remembers to bring a synthesizer.
