ear detail second album Rumspringa for A24 Music

New York electronic duo ear have announced their second album Rumspringa, due 29 May on A24 Music. The news remains a strong 20 May indie-electronic item because it connects one of the more mysterious young electronic projects to a label that has become increasingly active around music, film and atmosphere-driven releases.

The duo, Jonah Paz and Yaelle Avtan, met at Bard College in 2024 and bonded over British post-punk and IDM, which helps explain why their music can feel both emotionally twitchy and structurally slippery. Rumspringa follows their 2025 debut The Most Dear and the Future and the recent single Ne Plus Ultra.

The album has been described by the duo as a choose life record, which is a striking phrase for music that arrives with so much mystery around it. No full tracklist, artwork or music from the album had been shared in the Pitchfork report, which only adds to the sense of controlled opacity.

For an indie digest, ear are interesting because they sit between several current currents: young experimental electronic music, post-punk reference points, art-school intimacy and the expanding cultural gravity of A24. Rumspringa sounds positioned less as a straightforward club album and more as a statement of mood, instinct and refusal.
