ear’s Rumspringa becomes the week’s indietronica discovery to watch

ear’s Rumspringa is one of the strongest release-radar items for 28 May, with Stereogum naming it Album of the Week ahead of its 29 May release on A24 Music. The duo, Jonah Paz and Yaelle Avtan, make a kind of whispery electronic twee or indietronica that sounds deeply aware of the 2000s but not trapped inside cosplay.

Their music brings together indie-pop softness, glitchy IDM, post-rock atmosphere, found sound, slowcore hush and synthetic bursts that feel like small emotional weather systems. The album title refers to the Amish practice of young people stepping outside strict community standards to decide their own path, and that idea fits the project’s emotional language: independence as both freedom and danger.

Rumspringa seems to be about becoming yourself without fully explaining yourself. That mystery is part of the charm.
