Welsh-Canadian singer-songwriter ELIO has signed with FADER Label and released "PRIMADONNA", a new single signalling another stage in her development from electronically driven alternative pop toward a more organic musical approach. Announced on November 6, the signing follows her 2025 second album autonomy, which explored the guitar-based sounds that originally attracted her to songwriting.
"PRIMADONNA" was produced by Jack Schrepferman, whose credits include Jensen McRae, Dasha and Isaac Dunbar. Importantly, the finished recording retains considerable material from the original demo, allowing the initial songwriting character to remain central rather than disappearing beneath an elaborate production process.
ELIO first attracted attention during the pandemic with "My Friends Online", subsequently developing connections across alternative and mainstream pop. Her collaborators have included Charli xcx, Tobias Jesso Jr., Rostam, The Chainsmokers and several established songwriters and producers. International touring has brought sold-out headline performances in London, New York, Chicago, Toronto and Los Angeles. The FADER Label partnership provides another platform for a musician increasingly comfortable moving between independent sensibilities and accessible contemporary pop.
Apparently another seventeen production revisions are not always necessary, regardless of how enthusiastically somebody recommends adding a synthesizer. Enjoy more infectious melodies in our indie pop section and follow fresh stories in our music news.
