Lily Konigsberg has returned with 'Free Byrd', her first new solo release in four years, and thankfully the title does not indicate an unexpected pivot into Southern-rock guitar marathons. Konigsberg says the song itself dates back almost four years, having first been written while sitting on one of the giant rocks in New York's Central Park. Its first unofficial audience included a nearby teenager who asked whether it was a real song immediately after hearing it. Four years later, the answer is finally available on streaming services.
The track was developed with longtime friend and collaborator Hugo Stanley, whose credits include work around Palm and Frankie Cosmos, and arrives with a video directed by Konigsberg herself.
