Nina rebuilds Internal Makeup from garage pressure and dub shadows

Nina’s Internal Makeup arrives on 10 June through Faux Poly with a title that feels like a neat description of the music’s method. This is electronic music concerned with what sits beneath the surface: bass weight, negative space, echo, pressure and tiny structural decisions that change the whole mood. Written by Jevon Ives, mastered by Rob Small and released from London, the album sits across dub, dubstep, garage, house, UKG and dub techno. That is a strong palette, but Internal Makeup’s promise is not only in genre reference. It is in the way those forms can be used to make space feel physical. Good dubstep and dub techno do not simply hit hard; they make absence feel heavy. Nina appears to be working in that deep architecture, where the groove is not just something you follow but a room you enter.
