Philip Frobos, vocalist and bassist of Atlanta post-punk band Omni, has announced his second solo album Taste for the Unsavory, scheduled for January 29, 2027, through Upset The Rhythm. The announcement arrives alongside lead single "The Handoff", featuring Lydia Gammill of Brooklyn art-punk group Gustaf. Frobos describes the recording as a pulp-noir narrative combining musical influences from Manchester's dance-rock history with the distinctive alternative traditions of Athens, Georgia.
The album follows his 2021 solo debut Vague Enough to Satisfy, which accompanied a novel of the same name. His latest project continues exploring the relationship between storytelling and music while expanding its post-punk arrangements. Co-produced by Rodrigo Avendaño, whose credits include Soccer Mommy, the record features several notable collaborators.
Mastodon's Bill Kelliher contributes to "Fulton County Stadium at 8:05 AM", while Matthew Flegel of Preoccupations appears on "Nautical Knots". Artwork comes from Omni bandmate Frankie Broyles, and the physical presentation includes a cocktail zine featuring original drink recipes and illustrations by Emily Frobos. The twelve-track collection includes "Death of a Chef", "Happy New Year", "Project Peppermill", and "Kawasaki".
Frobos has developed a reputation for combining unusual lyrical observations with angular musical arrangements, making the forthcoming album an intriguing proposition for listeners interested in adventurous alternative rock. The inclusion of a cocktail publication suggests that Taste for the Unsavory may be one of the few albums actively encouraging listeners to consider their beverage choices alongside the music. Whether the drinks improve the listening experience remains an entirely separate experiment.
