Experimental musician Particle Kid and acclaimed producer Daniel Lanois have announced their collaborative album The Ocean Floor, scheduled for February 26, 2027 through Loosegroove Records. The eleven-track collection combines atmospheric folk, psychedelic arrangements and alternative-rock instrumentation. Particle Kid is the recording identity of Micah Nelson, whose work frequently explores unconventional songwriting and experimental production.

Lanois has developed an extraordinary reputation through collaborations with artists including Brian Eno, Bob Dylan and U2, alongside his own influential solo recordings. Their partnership brings together two musicians interested in creating immersive musical environments rather than following conventional commercial formulas. The announcement accompanies lead single "Even the Birds" and its official music video.

Nelson developed the song after observing a bird during a break from touring with The Flaming Lips in 2023. Watching the animal fly a short distance before settling nearby inspired reflections on the human tendency to imagine that happiness must exist somewhere else. The broader album develops a fictional narrative about people escaping an increasingly oppressive modern society by travelling toward the ocean floor. Its themes explore environmental anxiety, corporate control and the possibility of discovering hope through personal transformation. The collaborators have also announced American concerts for early 2027, including Los Angeles, Joshua Tree, Portland, Seattle, Dallas and Tulsa.

The Ocean Floor promises a particularly intriguing meeting between experimental folk and atmospheric production. Apparently the solution to modern civilisation's problems may involve moving underwater, although the practical difficulties of transporting guitar amplifiers have yet to be addressed.
