Dutch musician Mariska Baars, recording as soccer Committee, has announced a collaborative album with Scottish electronic artist Fergus Jones. Their debut collection belongs is scheduled for December 4 through Scenic Route and arrives alongside first single "The Heavens Are High". The partnership combines Baars' background in atmospheric folk and ambient songwriting with Jones' experience in experimental electronic production.
Baars has previously collaborated with musicians including Peter Broderick, while Copenhagen-based Jones has worked with artists such as Huerco S., Koreless and Adrian Utley. Their new project explores the relationship between restrained arrangements and emotional expression, allowing relatively small musical gestures to carry substantial meaning.
"The Heavens Are High" began as a composition by Baars before Jones developed additional arrangements and overdubs with musicians Diego Herrera and Vincent Yuen Ruiz. The recording examines longing and the human desire to connect with something beyond ordinary physical experience. Its atmospheric presentation reflects the album's broader interest in intimacy and musical simplicity. The eight-track collection also includes "Belongs", "Here I Go Again", "It's An Easy Way To Find", "Komme", "Grace", "All I Have Left" and "Little Wonder".
The collaboration provides another example of independent musicians working across national and stylistic boundaries without sacrificing individual creative identities. Apparently two musicians from different countries can discover a remarkably effective shared language by removing almost everything unnecessary from their arrangements.
