Exeter trio Pushbike have announced their new Little Bastard EP, due October 9 through The Bird Records, and they are introducing it with not one but two freshly released songs. 'Pure Hate' is the main event, charging in with fuzzy guitar weight before gradually twisting into something closer to battered 1990s emo.
Its companion track, 'Captain On The Bridge', takes the opposite route: compact, melodic and over in around eighty seconds, with a power-pop snap that makes its short runtime feel almost mischievous. Pushbike have openly drawn inspiration from indie institutions such as Sarah Records, Cherry Red and the C86 lineage, but the band's distortion-heavy approach also carries a distinctly transatlantic flavour.
The four-track EP will additionally feature 'Rainham Steel', 'I Am The Pilot' and 'Go Ahead', giving the trio enough space to explore their fondness for big guitars without turning nostalgia into museum work.
