Austin indie rock ensemble Shearwater release ‘The New World’ on 31 July through their own Polyborus label in partnership with Secretly Distribution. Developed over four years, it is described as the first of two new albums and features one of the broadest ensembles the band have assembled. Early songs ‘Daydream Unbeliever’ and ‘More and More’ balance intimate writing with arrangements that feel large enough to hold landscapes, weather systems and several unresolved questions about civilisation.

Jonathan Meiburg’s work has always drawn from nature, travel and the tension between beauty and danger. ‘The New World’ continues that perspective at a moment when the old world appears to be checking every smoke alarm simultaneously. The album promises scale without sacrificing detail, which is more than can be said for most actual new worlds. Read more indie rock news in our Indie Rock section.
