24 September 2026 – Sour Widows Let Desire Drag a 'Choke Chain' Through the Slow Burn

Sour Widows have shared "Choke Chain," another preview of forthcoming album Sigil, due October 23 through Julia's War. Following "Blood In The Grass" and "Lucky Star," the new track takes a slower, more magnetic route, gradually tightening rather than immediately announcing its intentions.

Susanna Thomson connects the song's emotional logic to the ancient Egyptian image of Anubis weighing a dead person's heart against a feather, using that idea to consider whether relationships that once caused genuine pain might eventually become strangely amusing when viewed from far enough away. It is heavy subject matter, but Sour Widows avoid turning the song into a lecture about heartbreak. Instead, desire, consequence and resentment are allowed to remain tangled together.

The band also directed the accompanying video themselves, keeping the visual language close to the people actually making the music. Sigil is increasingly shaping up as a record comfortable with patience: the advance songs do not sound engineered to reveal the album's entire personality before release day. "Choke Chain" particularly rewards the sort of listener willing to let tension accumulate. Sour Widows simply keep pulling the chain tighter until you notice you have stopped breathing normally.
