California alternative-rock outfit Sour Widows have released their second studio album, Sigil, through independent tastemaker imprint Julia's War Recordings. Following 2024's poignant Revival of a Friend, the eleven-track collection was produced by Melina Duterte (widely known for her acclaimed solo project Jay Som).
Anchored by the dual songwriting partnership of Maia Sinaiko and Susanna Thomson, Sour Widows specialize in interlocking electric guitars, unexpected dynamic surges, and ethereal vocal harmonies. The album title sprung from a terrifying dream of civilizational collapse experienced by Sinaiko, prompting the musicians to convert acute existential dread into meditative, cathartic guitar work.
