24 September 2026 – This Is The Kit Skim a Stone Toward Seventh Album 'Ghost Coat'

This Is The Kit have returned with "Skim A Stone," the first single from seventh studio album Ghost Coat, due January 15 through Memphis Industries. Kate Stables remains at the centre of the British indie-folk project, whose best songs have always made intricate musical thinking sound deceptively casual.

"Skim A Stone" continues that habit, introducing the next record with the sort of melodic oddness that feels friendly until you try to work out exactly why it is lodged in your head. Ghost Coat follows a catalogue that has steadily expanded This Is The Kit's audience without sanding away the project's eccentric edges, a useful achievement in a genre where "organic" can too easily become code for beige.

Announcing a January album in September also gives the band plenty of room to reveal its shape gradually rather than unloading half the tracklist before Christmas. The title Ghost Coat itself feels appropriately Stables-like: concrete enough to picture, strange enough to invite questions. For now, "Skim A Stone" provides the first answer. A stone can travel surprisingly far when thrown at the right angle; This Is The Kit have spent years applying essentially the same principle to folk music.
