London singer-songwriter and poet TIMOTEI has released "...happiness", a new single from his forthcoming debut EP Something's Destroying Me Slowly, expected in 2027. The recording follows earlier singles "Open Up" and "LOVEYOUTODEATH", extending an artistic project that combines alternative rock, post-punk influences, electronic production and spoken-word expression.
TIMOTEI's work also includes poetry and theatre, with those disciplines informing the reflective character of his songwriting. The new single explores the uncomfortable contradiction of constantly searching for happiness while becoming increasingly exhausted by the pursuit itself. Its production began with a slow piano melody that the musician accelerated before introducing a drum machine, creating a distinctive tension between melancholy atmosphere and rhythmic momentum.
TIMOTEI has explained that the song's central idea involves accepting happiness as something temporary rather than treating it as a permanent destination that every individual must eventually reach. The wider EP examines the emotional consequences of contemporary expectations, particularly the pressure to achieve professional success, maintain appealing relationships and construct an acceptable public identity.
Apparently the secret to happiness may involve stopping the relentless search for it, although that message is unlikely to impress anybody currently selling a twelve-step online course promising complete personal transformation.
