Zoom Unit find Inspiration Point and turn Mansfield into a post-punk laboratory

Zoom Unit’s Inspiration Point arrives on 30 June as a taster for the forthcoming album Sine Cosine Tangent, which already sounds like the band may have been left unsupervised in both a music room and a maths classroom. The Mansfield project tags the track across alternative electronic, experimental, indie, krautrock and post-punk, suggesting a release built from repetition, angles, pulses and maybe a little deadpan British strangeness. Inspiration points are scenic overlooks in real life, but in music they are also the place where a groove suddenly decides what it wants to become. Zoom Unit’s title has that sense of arrival: a vantage point, a signal, a small track functioning as a preview of a larger shape. If Sine Cosine Tangent follows this geometry, expect guitars and electronics drawing circles while pretending they are straight lines.
