24 September 2026 – Clan of Xymox Return With a Double Dose of Romantic Darkness

Dutch darkwave institution Clan of Xymox have returned with the double A-side single "Broken Heart" / "Fire," their first new music since 2024 album Exodus. More than four decades into the project, Ronny Moorings remains impressively committed to the proposition that synthesizers sound best when they appear to have spent the afternoon staring through rain-covered windows.

"Broken Heart" circles heartbreak, desire and the inability to emotionally detach after a relationship ends, pairing haunting electronics with the hypnotic pulse that has long connected Clan of Xymox to both goth listening rooms and dance floors. "Fire" completes the double release, extending the sense that the band are entering another creative phase rather than simply issuing an anniversary souvenir.

Longevity can become a trap for darkwave acts because audiences often want an exact recreation of whatever first made them fall in love with the music. Clan of Xymox have survived partly by understanding that atmosphere can remain recognisable even as production and context shift around it. The new single does not pretend 2026 is 1986, but neither does it apologise for carrying several decades of beautifully gloomy DNA.
