The Drums’ Jonny Pierce has launched a new independent label, Abysmal Records, with 'It Didn’t Matter', a collaboration between The Drums and Iranian-American darkwave artist Mareux in darkwave and post-punk.

The single begins a planned six-month sequence of collaborative releases created during sessions Pierce has hosted over the past two years. Mareux’s synthesizer work pulls The Drums toward a colder post-punk atmosphere while preserving the melodic directness and emotional vulnerability that have defined Pierce’s writing.

The label has been conceived as a space for experimentation and for emerging artists selected personally by Pierce, rather than as a conventional extension of an established band campaign. Each collaboration will be allowed to stand independently before the series eventually leads toward a new Drums album expected in 2027.
